How do I change the due date on a loan?
A loan's due date can be changed from the loan overview on a patron's detail page by selecting a loan and clicking "Extend loan".
Read more about extending loans under View and edit a patron's loans.
Can a loan be extended if there is an unpaid balance on it?
If there is a fee on the material, a loan can be extended. If, on the other hand, there is a compensation on the material, it is not possible to extend the loan.
Read more about extending loans under View and edit a patron's loans.
Where and when is a renewal period added?
Loans can be renewed if the loan profiles on the material's material group allow it. The loan profiles also determine the renewal period and the number of permitted renewals. Read more under Material groups and loan profiles.
A loan can be renewed in the following ways:
- Check out the material again to the same patron
- Search for the patron in question and go to the "Loans" tab on the patron's detail page. Then select one or more loans and click "Renew" (read more under View and edit a patron's loans).
- Click "Renew" on the "History" tab for a material on loan.
The renewal period is added from the date the renewal is made. Example:
- On the 1st of the month, Per borrows a DVD with a loan period of 14 days.
- The library has set a rule that DVDs may be renewed once and only for 7 days.
- On the 10th of the month, he renews the DVD. He may now keep the DVD until the 17th, after which it must be returned.
How do loan rules work?
Loan rules for a given loan are determined based on a combination of the patron's patron group and the material's material group.
Read more under Material groups and loan profiles.
Can a material that is reserved for another patron be checked out?
It depends on the configuration under Admin > Checkout > Allow checkout of materials on titles reserved for other patrons. By default this is allowed, as long as the material has not been set aside for the reservation. If the configuration is turned off, a warning is shown, but the checkout can be forced through by a staff member.
Materials on the reservation shelf or in transit can never be checked out unless forced through by a staff member.
