On the "Catalogue" > "Materials" page you can search for materials. Here you can search in the following ways:
- Search by using the available search criteria
- Search with CQL codes
- Search by material number
Search with search criteria
You can combine the available search criteria to refine your search. Click "More filters" to display additional search criteria.
It is possible to get an overview of placements in use, and to insert a placement in use into the search. Click in the "Branch" field to access the overview.
If you use Cicero Catalogue, the search also allows "fuzzy search", which means that searches can include spelling mistakes. You can enable fuzzy search under "More filters", where you can specify the level of fuzziness (0-2), depending on how many spelling mistakes per word you want to allow.
The search criteria can be reset by clicking "Reset".
Searching with CQL codes
It is possible to perform advanced searches using CQL codes (see CQL search).
CQL search works differently from ordinary material search. Cicero first finds all bibliographic records that match your CQL search, and then retrieves up to 200 bibliographic records at a time. For each record, Cicero checks whether the materials match your other search criteria (e.g. status "At home"), and presents these in the table.
Because Cicero only retrieves 200 bibliographic records at a time, the total number of materials matching the search cannot be displayed immediately. The numbers in the top left corner of the table show: how many materials are currently displayed (1), how many bibliographic records have been retrieved so far (2), and how many bibliographic records the search has found in total (3). When you scroll down, the system automatically retrieves the next 200 bibliographic records.
Note that searching using CQL cannot be combined with ”Floating group”, ”Theme”, ”Not on loan from” and ”Marked for discard”.
Search by material number
When searching by material number, other search criteria will be reset. A list of multiple materials can be built up by searching for one material number at a time.
Note that if a search has already been performed with other search criteria (e.g. placement or status), searching for a specific material number will remove the material from the result list instead of adding it. This can be used, for example, for material maintenance, where a number of materials can be searched for, found on the shelves, and then removed one at a time once processing is complete.
If you therefore want to search by material number after having applied other search criteria, you must reset the search result before you enter/scan the material number.
If you use short barcodes ("Systematic L&L" barcodes), you must first specify the branch in the material number field by clicking the branch icon . Then you only need to enter the up to 6 digits printed on the barcode label. Read more under Material numbers (Systematic L&L).
Search via upload of material numbers
It is also possible to upload a csv file with material numbers by clicking "More filters" and then clicking "Search via upload of csv file...". This will search for materials with the material numbers listed in the csv file.
NOTE! It is important that each number appears on its own line in the csv file, in order for the search to be completed correctly.
Example of content in a csv file:
29583750
94827357
74810582
Search suggestions
When you perform a search in the CQL field, Cicero automatically suggests what you can search for, based on the first few letters or words you enter. For example, if you type "harry potter", Cicero will display a number of relevant titles in a dropdown menu, which you can simply click to select. You can also navigate through the suggestions using the arrow keys or the mouse.
If you have previously used the CQL search in the same logged-in session, you will also be able to access a search history of previous searches. Read more under Search history.
Search result
When the search is complete, the results are displayed in a table. You can then click a material to open the material's detail page, or check the checkboxes on the left side to perform actions on the materials.
