Relations between authority records are an essential part of cataloguing with EDM. Which relations can be created depends on which types of authority records you want to relate to one another. The data model below shows an overview of the different types of authority records and which relations they can have to one another. The RES type covers all types of authority records except Manifestation part (Manifestation Part).

Creating relations
Relations can, like attributes, enrich an authority record with content, and relations are therefore also created from an authority record's detail page. Exactly where the relation is created depends on the type of relation, but the procedure is generally the same:
-
Select the type of relation
- Depending on the context, this may be selected in advance
- For some relations, additional information can be assigned to the relation - for example, a role must also be specified on a "contributer" relation.

The relation between work and expression ("Is realized through") and between expression and manifestation ("Is embodied in") is specified on the "Relations" tab, which you can read more about under Relations between work, expression and manifestation. The relation between work collection and expression collection ("Is realized through") is specified in a similar way.
Displaying relations
On most authority records' detail page, there is a tab at the top called "Relations", where the most relevant relations are shown in one or more tables.
