Cicero automatically sends notifications to the patron when various events occur, e.g. when a citizen registers as a patron at the library or when a material is ready for collection. Which notifications should be sent to the patron, and how they should be sent, is configured under Admin > Notifications.
To find a specific notification, you can either use the search field at the top or click "Notifications", after which the list of all notifications is displayed. Click a specific notification to configure it.
Configuring a notification
A notification consists of a number of elements, which are explained below the image.
Title and description
Describes the purpose of the notification and when the notification is sent.
Choice of standard protocol
Specify how the notification should be sent to the patron.
Choice of alternative protocol
If a patron cannot be notified through the standard protocol, the alternative protocol will be used. If the patron also cannot be notified via the alternative protocol, the message will appear under Message handling. You can read more under Sending notifications to patrons.
Other
For some notifications there will be additional settings, which will appear under "Other". This could for example be whether the notification should be sent or how long after a specific event the notification should be sent. For most notifications (except booking notifications) it is also possible to specify whether certain patron types should be exempt from receiving the notification.
Notification template for each protocol
The content of the notification is configured in the notification template itself. Click the desired notification protocol (SMS, Email, Digital Post, Custom protocol) to view and edit the template.
Read more under Setting up notifications and printouts to see which values can be included in the various notification templates.
You may benefit from configuring the templates under "Preview" if you want to see how your changes affect the notification that will be sent out.
Preview
You can see a preview of a notification by clicking "Preview" at the bottom of the page, and then selecting the desired protocol. A dialog box then opens where you can see a preview of the notification on the left side, while the template is displayed on the right side. From here you can make changes to the template, click "Update", and then you will immediately see how your updates will affect the display of the notification. If you want to use other data variables in the preview, you can click "Data variables" and change the values.
Restore to default value
Cicero has some default values for each notification. If you want to go back to the default values, you can click "Restore to default value". You can then choose whether you want to restore a specific protocol template or all values for the notification - including the choice of standard and alternative protocol.
